In my experience, the contributors who tend to thrive are those that have have discussed both these aspects of open source in some kind of training environment (e.g. Dave Humphrey’s students, the Ascend project). We could do better for contributors who don’t have that luxury.<div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">So, online sessions would likely be very valuable.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">- K</div><div class=""><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><div class=""><div><blockquote type="cite" class=""><div class="">On Oct 30, 2014, at 3:29 PM, Emma Irwin <<a href="mailto:emma.irwin@gmail.com" class="">emma.irwin@gmail.com</a>> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><div class=""><div dir="ltr" class=""><div class=""><div class="">Hi <br class=""><br class=""><br class=""></div>Errietta, myself and a few developers from the Victoria tech community ran an event at U of Vic introducing computer science students to the concepts of open source contribution, with Mozilla Webmaker (code) as the contribution opportunity.<br class=""><br class="">With curriculum from <a href="http://openhatch.org/" class="">Open Hatch</a>, students learned git/github & IRC (in learn by making fashion).
