<div class="moz-cite-prefix">Hey Cassie,<br>
<br>
Here are my thoughts:<br>
<br>
<i>What do you think is the key to good designer / developer
relationships? </i><i><br>
</i><i>
</i><br>
I think the thing of most importance in a designer/developer combo
is to constantly build on the patience and knowledge-sharing
aspects of the relationship. As a designer, there are technical
things that I will be too uncomfortable or simply won't have
enough knowledge on during a project. If I am able to take my
questions to the developer I'm working with, I will have learned
from the best <i>and </i>I will have learned how to achieve
something technically that was previously foreign and intimidating
to me. This of course applies vice versa. Our relationship
exponentially grows.<br>
<i><br>
</i><i>
Where do you think your discipline is most misunderstood?</i><i><br>
</i><i>
</i><br>
I think it's sometimes hard to convey that little things do really
matter in design. Microinteractions are imperative in both UI and
UX design. <br>
<br>
<i>What can designers do to make devs' lives better / easier? What
can devs do to make designers' lives better / easier?</i><br>
<br>
As a designer, I have found that really trying to understand a
technical challenge makes a developer's life better. I myself ask
a lot of questions. I draw diagrams that help me understand from a
high-level perspective, I sketch alongside the developer, anything
that helps me understand where I can help from a design/front-end
design standpoint. Another thing is having the flexibility to
acknowledge that some design ideas might not be technically
feasible. This is where the developer/designer relationship can
become a stronghold, as we can pair up each of our domain
expertise to offer a novel alternative solution.<br>
<br>
<i>What workflows do you think work best for interdisciplinary
collaboration?</i><br>
<br>
The way I like working is like a game of catch. Each of us work
synchronously to achieve better and faster results. I will sketch
up the UI while the developer readies the back-end server
architecture. I will work on HTML and CSS while the developer
creates Angular views and state management changes. And so it
goes, a fluid back and forth. If someone misses a throw that's no
problem; there's trust in our game of catch. We're both committed
to having fun, improving each other's game, and coming out with an
awesome feature at the end.<br>
