Hi,

# Where/How/Who

Generally, where is the right place to discuss
anything related to the User Interface (UI) of Thunderbird, to possibly submit suggestions/mockups in term of layout/styling changes? What are the progress on this if any?

# Slight UI layout revamp of the main window

I would like to suggest also to revamp slightly the main window user interface to regroup essential action buttons all in one smaller area (instead of apart here and there as currently) accessible at ALL time from anywhere/anytime while simplifying... as part of TB Core...

For example the tab area in main Thunderbird windows could look like this text mockup:

[TM][M][A][C][T][AS][S][Tab1][Tab2]........................................[TabX][-][□][X]

---^-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Main Content...

Where each [letter/word] represent an already existing icon/action button:

[TM] = Thunderbird Menu icon (the three horizontal bar icon)

[M] = Mail icon (that would act as the Mail tab currently name Home) - this tab would always be active like currently.

[A] = Addressbook icon (click on it would open the addressbook window that eventually could be integrated as a tab as well at some point perhaps instead of a separate windows - Also Addresbook work could be replaced by Contacts instead to fit what most people use now a days)

[C] = Calendar icon (that would act as calendar tab when activated by a click on it)

[T] = Tasks icon (that would act as calendar tab when activated by a click on it)

[AS] = Advanced Search icon (click on it would open the Message Advance Search window that eventually could be integrated as a tab as well at some point perhaps instead of a separate windows). For this one another possible alternative could be to "Integrate 'Search Message...' window into the main UI + Add button for quick toggling between folder view and search view + Extend features" as described previously here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1102861 and mocked up here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=8532502 and here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=8532503

[S] = Settings icon (that would act as Settings tab when activated by a click on it)

[TabX] = Tabs

[-] = Minimise Window icon

[□] = Maximise Windows icon

[X] = Close Thunderbird main window (ideally should be equivalent to File > Exit but that is another matter)

Alternative HTML Alt/Title text could be used when mouse over on each icon to get a description of what each one represent. To keep it intuitively comprehensible for people what each icon means.

Just some suggestions that could be discussed elsewhere where ever more appropriate than on the mailing list...

Regards,
