Dear Eyal,

the whole point would be to extend the APIs so far that we do
not need to use XPCOM anymore in order to access filters,
emails, folders, search functions, actions and files. Then they
would have a full right to the name. These APIs obviously have
to be much more specialised and will have some privileged access
(for instance it should be possible to open local files for
attachments / inserting images from Composer, and we should be
able to load / save larger amounts of data at least as JSON
format - that's why I like to see Thunderbird's emphasis as a desktop
program).

Desktop programs should work offline, (everything outside of
sending and receiving mail and that is a LOT) that;s why "web"
feels so wrong to me. Over the years I haave come to see
Thunderbird as a database fat client with some excellent
additional interfaces to the outside world. ymmv.
