Dear Eyal,

again, fine line here. You will have to very carefully define
what you mean by "ads", and routine use is difficult to
pin down in a definition. But I get what you mean, it's "core
functionality".

I am allowing use of premium functions in standard versions,
but they do create a sliding notification (this is
premium feature, if you want to use it permanently please
consider buying a pro license [link]). It is a very valuable
tool as the of function used is put into the referrer to the
shop so I can find out which of the pro features are valuable to
users and I can add more development time to improve them.
Sliding notifications will not stop the workflow, but might
be considered as intrusive by some users.

Personally I prefer this over completely hiding / taking away
premium features from "free as in beer" users, but some may
prefer not having these functions and never seeing a
notification on (hey there's a paid version). Again, it's a
compromise between being "liked" and being able to put bread on
the table.

I was thinking about ads for other things / other parties, not a premium
version of the extension; , for which I would feel more tolerant as a user.
So how about something like:
* No ads at all during routine use of the extension.
* No periodic initiation of ad display by the extension (e.g. no pop-ups).
* The only kinds of ads allowed are solicitations to: Pay authors for
work on extension; pay a third party (e.g. a charity) in appreciation
for work on extension; purchase/license a premium version of the same
extension; purchase/license another extension by the same authors
offering closely-related functionality; visit an author's non-ATN web
page (where author can advertise whatever they want to).
* ads may be displayed when the extension is updated; in
settings/preferences dialogs; or when user tries to use a feature not
enabled in current variant of the ad.
* Ads may not involve any animation.
* Ads must be clearly associated with the extension visually, e.g. in a
part of a dialog obviously relating to the extension only - so that it
is not perceived as put forward by Thunderbird itself or by other
extensions.
