exactly what we want :) While all of these roles are important in
general, the question is if we need them all at once (I think we
can agree to "No" here). Now we have to find out which roles to
start out with. We'll update you with more concrete plans as soon
as possible!
Also, via IRC the concern came up that hiring someone in this area
would result in micro-management given we want them to do all
these things. Be assured that we don't plan to do so. I'd rather
have someone capable of determining what areas Thunderbird needs
improvement on from a community management side on their own, than
someone who we tell every step of the way.
FWIW many Community Managers do some or all of those things

started off with a short discussion on Thunderbird and

board does not process Thunderbird add-ons, but rather
the add-ons team refers feature requests to us. After a
short discussion it became clear that we need to have a
process on featured add-ons and that it makes sense to
do something similar to Firefox, where there is a
feature board that regularly decides which add-ons
should be featured. The feature board is not something
we believe needs to be in the council’s hands, but
instead we would like to involve the community as much
as possible. We already have someone in mind that could
help set up the process and will surely let you all know
when there is an opportunity to apply to the feature
board.
