<p>Thanks Jörg.</p>
<p>Could Kent or somebody from the Tb-Planning team put these
items into "End-user-consumption" ready paragraphs? I would find
it difficult to summarize as I am not doing much other than
following the bugs and maybe add 2 cents of comment.</p>
<p>A short paragraph on the "Asian crisis"would be a great thing,
I want to accumulate some good will before Thunderbird attempts
any fundraisers. If we do not market the (free as in beer)
service the Thunderbird community provides to the End-Users then
it won't be recognized and that cuts us off from potential
future funding.<br>

Again, how would you explain this to an end-user? They see the
Lightning plugin as the front-end, how is that affected?</p>

<p>Hi,</p>
<p>I haven't see much participation from others in the "What's
new" page (<a moz-do-not-send="true"
class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45">https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-thunderbird-45</a>),
so I mainly put all the changes I knew about there, including
all changes visible in the UI.</p>
<p>Perhaps others want to chip in. Patrick noted XMPP here (<a
moz-do-not-send="true" class="moz-txt-link-freetext"
href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1240609#c53"><a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1240609#c53">https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1240609#c53</a></a>).<br>
</p>
<p>Not visible but very important is that the "Asian Crisis" was
fixed in this release. It was Kent's most hated bug that CJK
composition simply didn't work correctly.</p>
<p>Also notable is that TB 45.1 will ship with IcalJS, a JS
replacement of the old C++ calendar. This is a big step
forward for the future of TB. BTW, I switched to IcalJS
recently and haven't seen a problem yet.<br>
</p>
<p>As for the numbers: The thing is very clear: Mozilla Firefox
do a release about every six weeks, every seventh release is
an ESR. Since managing releases consumes a lot of manpower,
Thunderbird which is staffed solely by overworked and
underpaid (read: unpaid) volunteers havs decided to only do
the ESR releases and to carry other released to the beta stage
for those users who want to ride the bleeding edge. Of course
there are also Earlybird releases, but the are mostly
unmanaged, so you get the luck of the draw ;-)<br>

<p>One more thing, <br>
</p>
<p>if I get around to writing a blog entry this weekend, could
you provide a paragraph (and maybe link to a more detailed
explanation) on the current ESR approach and what it means
for the code line? I think the yearly version jump (38 =>
45) may raise a few eyebrows, and I wonder how to sum it up
in a correct explanation for public consumption.</p>
<p>By the way, for the Tb45 items I used in the video I pretty
much exclusively used this list that Jörg pointed to: <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.jorgk.com/misc/TB45-GUI-changes.pdf">TB45-GUI-changes.pdf</a>
</p>
<p>Big advantage of these is that I could just point to UI for
the obvious change and I did not have to explain technically
complex facts.<br>
</p>
<p>If there are any other significant changes related to this
ESR that you would think should be mentioned I would like to
know.</p>
<p>thanks,<br>
