I believe featured add-ons should be reviewed and focus on
mail-specific add-ons. It is easy for "hybrid" add-ons to get
much greater exposure due to the big numbers in Firefox; this
doesn't help developer who want to specialize in mail/news.

Usage statistics for add-ons can be broken down by
application[1]. So it should be possible to only count the number
of TB installations for the "most popular TB add-ons" list.
Even with this, I believe a popular addon is not necessarily a
useful one. What I am talking about are featured extensions; I don't
think there is much to be gained by advertising something like
Adblock plus or even ThunderBrowse when there are much better
mail-centric addons to be discovered. And even if the statistics are
separate, hybrid addons have an unfair advantage as they are already
exposed to a much bigger audience, so they get many times more
advertisement by simply being hosted on the Firefox addons site.

Also, I do not see much movement on the featured extensions, they
seem to be largely static. Finally, if an addon author asks to be
featured then I believe AMO should at least answer them. In my
experience these emails are just ignored?
