I am the author of the CompactHeader addon. Just a note: The version in the beta channel at AMO should work with Thunderbird 37.0 or newer.
It also somehow works with 36.0, but will break Thunderbird if you remove the other actions button from the header pane toolbar. This was fixed in bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1113610

The new version is not compatible with older Thunderbird versions (<36), so I will probably let it be reviewed at AMO a view weeks before the next version of Thunderbird will be release (as release).
