This is definitely an improvement - I've set the value to 10 :-) Thanks,

However, there doesn't seem to be any sanity checking which makes sure
the message is always visible! If I set the bottom padding to a very
large one, instead of pinning the message to the top, it's off-screen.

This is a problem because my laptop has two screen sizes, depending on
whether the external monitor is attached. If it's attached, I have 20+
lines. If it's not, I have 6. So if I set the value to 5, I lose much
advantage on the big screen. If I set it to 18, it means I have to go
and re-set it when I unplug my laptop because the messages are now
