<div dir="ltr"><div>Hi there, sorry new here but thanks to Dave for pointing me to the right direction,</div><div><br></div><div>Seems like there are some main concerns regarding a few stuff which will be in the Photon UI.</div><div>If I am not mistaken then it's in design phase so i would like to voice the concerns of mine and few of my colleagues in regard to the productivity aspects of this.</div><div><br></div><div>main concerns are like these.</div><div><br></div><div><b>1</b>- <b>The bookmarks</b></div><div><br></div><div><a href="http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/photon-firefox-57-3-7.png">http://cdn.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/photon-firefox-57-3-7.png</a></div><div><br></div><div>In this mock up the bookmarks seem to be inline just like the history button in current Firefox.</div><div>The problem with that is it is not at all easy to use or dare i say counter productive.</div><div><br></div><div>It is currently two clicks to use a bookmark -- Toolbar button > choose bookmark<br><br>With the library the process is three clicks -- Toolbar button > Bookmarks > choose bookmark.</div><div><br></div><div><br>personally don’t like the 2 clicks to display bookmarks, downloads etc.<br>i think we’ll just be able to hover over them to open them,</div><div><br></div><div>The current implementation is great as users with many folders + nested folders,</div><div>you can easily go on a particular folder -pop out ui - open a bookmark/sub folder,</div><div>quickly move to say folder number 5 - pop out ui- open nested folders/bookmarks.</div><div><br></div><div>Plus the pop out helps show all bookmarks eg a folder has 50 its all shown on a hover but the new implementation will require scrolling just like in history menu with even few say 10 bookmarks.</div><div>That's a serious draw back imo.<br></div><div><br></div><div><b>current one</b></div><div><br></div><div> <a href="https://i.imgur.com/FortKdX.png">https://i.imgur.com/FortKdX.png</a></div><div><br></div><div>is far more easy to use more so for people who rely on bookmarks very often and have organized bookmarks in folders and sub folders for easy access.</div><div><br></div><div>Personally I fell that the deign team can keep the current bookmark system and just apply polish to it in terms of colors and new icons.</div><div><br></div><div><b>A colleague of mine made this for reference</b></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://image.ibb.co/fn5wWQ/bookmark.jpg">https://image.ibb.co/fn5wWQ/bookmark.jpg</a></div><div><br></div><div>It integrates easily with the current format of PHOTON UI plus keeps all the functionality intact without losing on productivity or aliening users on bookmarks plus easy to access and gets the job done easily.</div><div><br></div><div>Just remove the bookmark menu which above downloads as it is one extra click to reach bookmarks</div><div><br></div><div>Please seriously consider this as it is a major step back in the current mockup,</div><div>devs cannot be always right while deciding for others and i say that with utmost respect to all of you guys.<br></div><div>Even FF 29 did not mess with the fundamental bookmarks as it was way too important just like now.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><b>2</b> <b>Compact Mode with color options</b><br></div><div><br></div><div>That "Compact mode" is like 50% higher than what I have now with CTR.</div><div><br></div><div>Plus compact should be even more compact & dense!</div><div><div><br></div><i>Plus What's
the point of unifying the two search bars if you then merge history,
bookmarks and downloads? To have MORE empty space for nothing?</i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div><i>Plus the download button should show number of download and time remaining eg like Fx 50</i></div><div><i>and not a filling arrow in Fx55 which is not useful at all.<br></i></div><div><br></div><div>what i meant was that compact ui should be super compact as some people
want the ui to be fully functional but tiny , smallest possible
buttons/icon, smallest urlbar etc with least height vertically so takes
least amount of pixels. not everyone has High resolution display or
wants to waste it on large ui.
DevTheme is compact but not super compact, why not give a super compact as an option? why leave it for themes etc when it can be prebaked easily just the the two other themes?</div><div>Plus why not provide option for different colors?</div><div>an option like Vivaldi, which can provide auto color or manual selection of colors.</div><div>enable disable it just like Vivaldi, just give it a try and see the
option it provides,
Simple them(default), a few dynamic themes which change the chrome color
with the sites favicon etc, then custom colors. I Think it should be
prebaked as is just a small css tweak and does not bring an overhead,or
requires an extension or the new theme API<br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><b>3</b> <b>And what's with the forward button? <br></b></div><div><br> Looks weird to me.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><b>4 I'm going to assume that the start page can be reconfigured</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Top site/visited site/Blank , maybe extension can do it but would be better if just like FF52 it option is available from the start.</div><div><b><br></b></div><div><b>5 Try and spawn without window decorations at all, and draw the buttons within their window like Chrome in LINUX<br></b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div><br>as long as the Linux versions will get rid of that empty line on top
i'll be happy. Since this is a major rewrite Firefox on Linux should be
exactly like windows and no unnecessary top bar or loss of content
space and ugly or ui looking different, this is an opportunity to make things
right!!</div><div><br></div><div>6 <b>Options for bookmarks toolbar to be visible at all times or hidden</b></div><div><b>(just like now & no change) </b>. <br></div><div>Plus one more option I
would like Fx to copy from Chrome is the way it presents your bookmarks
on new-tab without keeping the toolbar visible(user can choose to enable/disable it.)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>7<b> Extensions should be able to map about:config flags to buttons/menu items</b></div><div><b> </b><b>Implement "chrome.storage.managed"</b></div><div><b><br></b><div><a href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1215062">https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1215062</a></div></div><div><br></div><div><a href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1230802">https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1230802</a></div><div><br></div><div>why are these not available as the kill some good extensions like configuration mania?</div><div>which we use in large deployments<br></div><div>The user has to change the setting and give consent to it so why not let it be?</div><div>It's easy to change settings or test new ones without having to know the exact string name.</div><div>Plus when we need to deploy Firefox & extensions in our office this will be way handy.</div><div><br></div><div>Chrome lets us do this and makes it a lot easy.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Lastly thank you for reading this long email and please like to say
sorry if i offended you in any way but bookmark mock up got to my nerves
as i use history in hamburger menu and it's a pain and waste of time and
current one is the best except not closing the bookmark pop up after a
click like stay-open menu does, plus Linux should not be a second class
citizen..</div><div>First time posting so might have made some mistakes so please be kind & also not disrespecting your work but as target of your product trying to give my & my colleagues opinion</div><div>on how to make it better as they use it daily for 6-9 ours daily.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Hope you guys look carefully at the feed back and integrate them to make Firefox even better.</div><div><br></div><div>Looking forward to any questions or confusions.</div><div><br></div><div>Hope you have a good day .</div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div>
