Thanks for the heads up, Tracy ! I have now posted a suggestion to
bugzilla? that users be offered the option to place the sidebar on that
side of FF window which best meets their needs. This would be a solution in
tune with Mozilla's desire to offer readers a browser which can be
customised as they please....
Many other users responded in kind and - lo and behold - within a few days I found my Nightly sidebar back on the left side. After waiting a further few days to see that it would remain in place, which it did, I posted a reply on the bugzilla thread thanking the developers for heeding the wishes of users....

To my great surprise, the next day I was greeted with a response to my post, in which the poster had the kindness and delicacy to point out to me that bugzilla was not a commentary forum, but a «bug and work tracker», and that posts like mine were unwelcome there. (I can only wonder whether, had I not posted to bugzilla in the first place, whether the original sidebar position would have been restored.) So be advised : take care when pointing to a bug on bugzilla and don't ever ever thank developers for fixing one !...

Henri
