tried to log onto the Starbucks web-site with the current version
(2016-11-18) of Nightly. I entered my User-ID and Password and hit
Enter. Starbucks came back with a page of advertisement banners, and at
the top was a notice that they detected that I was outside the US, and
would I like to connect with the Starbucks site for that country.
Apparently, they thought I was in Canada. I was *not* signed in. I am
not using a VPN, either.<br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5416"></div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5417"><br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5418"></div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5419">
After several re-tries, I went to my home router's administration page,
picked up my real external IP address, and looked up its geolocation.
Several services correctly identified my ISP and their corporate
location, in my state of residence.</div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5420"><br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5421"></div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5422">
I then called Starbucks, and their technical people verified that all
my information that they had on file has me as being a resident of my
state. They had no help to offer. So I suggested it might be a browser
problem, and told them I would try again.</div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5423"><br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5424"></div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5425">
My next step was to try with Developer Edition. This also elicited the
"out of country" message from Starbucks. So then I tried the current
Firefox release. This one worked! So my conclusion is that something's
wrong with Nightly and Developer Edition, that leads certain sites to
think we're elsewhere.</div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5426"><br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5427"></div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5428">Version info:</div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5429">Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 32-bit</div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5430">Nightly 53.0a1 (2016-11-18) (32-bit)<br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5431">Developer Edition 51.0a2 (2016-11-14) (32-bit)<br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5432">Firefox 50.0</div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5433"><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5459">_______________________</div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5489">This is still happening with:<br>Nightly 53.0a1 (2016-12-09) (32-bit) and<br>Developer Edition 51.0a2 (2016-12-09) (32-bit),</div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5534">but not with</div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5559">Firefox 50.0.2<br></div><div id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5490"><br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5434"></div></div><div dir="ltr" id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5435">--Stephen Rovinsky<br id="yiv4687944696yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481311183944_5436"></div> </div></div></div></div></body></html>
