Hello,

I have been experiencing these problems for many many many months.

I am still running OSX 10.6.8 here. (I may have already explained "why" in earlier/previous [bug]reports here. It isn't a pretty story at all. A little-bit is mentioned at the end of this post below.)

… … …

Firstly, the number of fonts in my system is causing some issues with Firefox and other subsystems. I have rather vast collection stored in /Library/Fonts here.

While in Firefox, clicking on the 'Content' tab of the ("Cmd+," [comma]) Preferences, I am always having to wait a super-long time (==minutes, sometimes) for a response, then finally I see the following pop-up:

> Warning: Unresponsive Script
>
> A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.
>
>

Since this appears, and knowing I have a h-u-g-e font collection under /Library/Fonts_, I always tell it to Cancel the running of this script. Then I can select the 'Content' tab again and get right into the settings there.

What can I tell Firefox to do to lessen this super-long wait? (I need to save my eyesight by turning-off some settings there. Then when needed, I can use normal settings.)

Please don't tell me to thin-out the number of fonts here.

And I know this is a sore issue with OSX (for instance, the big collection also bothers the X11/XQuartz subsystem quite a lot on similar long-wait issues etc. usually dealing with fonts).

Addendum: I've read the Help Support Page on "Unresponsive Script" <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script>. I already have dom.max_script_run_time set to '40'. Now I'm thinking I may need to increase this even more, so I've up'd it to '120' now. And wait even longer. But now I'm wondering if there is another setting for the sheer number of fonts I have. Any ideas?

Please also note that I use this vast collection with X11/XQuartz and the (self-built) GTK/Glib apps.

… … …

Secondarily, I am experiencing some "flashing" in the Firefox window. Sometimes this draws something which causes my entire system to pause (even the Clock Display stops on the menu bar, but other non-GUI tasks continue as expected [background tasks]). Then after a little while the GUI subsystem will 'recover' ond continue as before.

I've already turned-off the Firefox settings dealing with "hardware acceleration" and the "smooth scrolling" etc. No change.

During all this, the "e10s" option here has already been turned off for now (on the about:preferences -> General version of the prefs).

… … …

Daily/Thunderbird also has these issues.

I'm guessing I'll probably need to resort to a bug-report for some help.

I am actually considering using text-only browser/email apps such as Lynx/Links (which I can usually compile without issue; I can use my own builds of Thomas Dickey's ncurses and such as well) [screw The Fruits™ for not maintaining these projects for us; but don't get me started here]

FWIW ---

I am quite desperate wanting to jump off this fruity ship very very much. I definitely want to use f/oss systems that I can boot-up, too, but this model "iMac6,1" won't usually recognize the iso's that I fetch and burn to optical media; so any clues here is appreciated too.

But remember I am on disability with no end in sight. I can't afford most anything now besides the usual rent & food etc. My main paid job was technical in computers, system programming, etc, so I am trying to keep my grey-noodles alive in this manner.

This iMac is the prime way for me to communicate to the outside world. It's probably high time for a replacement; I want it to run f/oss completely, and I should already have proper experience based on my main paid job to build one.

So I may need to get a Grant in order to be able to get (afford) what I really need. I wish I could reach Kevin Trudeau (look him up on Wikipedia to learn why I probably can't).

Thank you for helping in any way possible.

(I'll try attaching a list of my fonts)
