no-can-do here
for 10.6/SL users anyway,
because the Oracle croox won't support us,
and Apple won't do the honours either
still leaving us at:

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_51"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-457-10M4509)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-457, mixed mode)

And BTW the Firefox plugin checker has been lying to us about this,
flagging my plugins as 'outdated'! Honest!

<rant>

What in blue-blazes are we suppose to do about Java etc.
when the GoogleCode project has been axed
which did have some ready-to-install .pkg files
for Java-7 & -8 built for us SL users.
They've wiped out everything at the GoogleCode site
<http://code.google.com/p/openjdk-osx-build/>.
They seemed to move the project to GitHub at
<https://github.com/hgomez/obuildfactory/#osx>
which forces us to BUILD the Java code
as far as I can understand their instructions.

Rather, I am probably going to disable Java entirely here.

(sorry for bringing too much rain to flood this party,
but I am hoppin' mad at The Fruits
for leaving some of us with 32-bit EFI/BIOS.
I refuse to upgrade to 10.7/Lion,
been hearing/reading way too many horror stories about it.
And I don't have hackability to use the Chameleon project
[to possibly steer us around the 32-bit EFI/BIOS].
We are not permitted to run any higher level of OSX
even tho my iMac has a 64-bit capable CPU (Core-2-Duo).
I _cannot afford_ to upgrade to newer machinery either.
FWIW I am planning to jump the fruity ship
and go full F/OSS [I do have some expertise there]
if-whenever my disabled/retirement funds allow.
I've joined the F/OSS crowd long ago
because it was actually part of my paid job
[over the four decades work I have on record].
…but I've digressed too much for this list…)

</rant>

(P.S. yes I am one of the "MacInTouch Readers"
who harps about this from time to time)

I thank you and the list for putting up with me here.
