You can get Mozila's version of Firefox 19.0.2 (the current "stable" release, as opposed with 20.0b4 "beta", 21.0a2 "Aurora" and 22.0a1 "Nightly") either by clicking the big green button near top right of <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/" target="_blank">http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/</a> or, for a different language, click "Systems and Languages" just below the button (or you might get lucky by replacing the /en-US/ by something else in the URL: for instance for Swedish, <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/sv-SE/firefox/new/" target="_blank">http://www.mozilla.org/sv-SE/firefox/new/</a> where the green button is on the left side).<br>

Once installed, this version of Firefox can update itself when an update is available, or you can check for updates by means of a button on the "Help → About Firefox" popup.<br>

IIUC, PPA is specific to Ubuntu. Mozilla uses a different packaging method, as (for Linux) a .tar.bz2 where everything is bundled in a top-level firefox/ directory. You can untar it (for instance into /usr/local/ or into $HOME) for the initial install, then there are incremental and complete .mar archives to update an already installed version (which knows how to install them and from where). Once you get it rolling, it ought not to be more inconvenient than the PPA, just different.<br>

If there are problems with the Ubuntu PPA version of Firefox, and the corresponding version from Mozilla doesn't have these problems, then the solution seems clear to me: report the problem to Ubuntu (or to Launchpad or to wherever), watch how (and if) the issue gets resolved, and in the meantime use Mozilla's version. Once you get the hang of it, you may (or may not) decide to go on using Mozilla's Firefox in preference to Ubuntu's even after the issue is resolved, like I went on using Mozilla's Firefox and SeaMonkey in preference to openSUSE's (which always lags behind longer than I like).<br>

Hughes above, I have no problem accessing and using different versions
of Firefox, but I find using the Nightly PPA convenient. As I pointed
out I have reported the problem I've encountered on the Ubuntu fora, but alas, have
