Until the last 2 (or 3 ) Nightlies of FF 21.0a1 I had no problems
with having Thunderbird (also at 21.0a1) open a Firefox URL when I
clicked on a link in TB. Now, this does not happen and I need to
"go" to FF in order to view that link.

Is this behaviour an intended change to Firefox or a "bug" or some
change is needed in some setting?

Sounds more like an issue with Thunderbird.
Possibly, but I also have FF 18 installed and Daily does not have this problem with it but only with FF Nightly 210a1.

Do you constantly switch back and forth of which FF is the default browser? I haven't worked with Thunderbird in ages (Gmail has me too spoiled at this point), but it seemed to me back then that Thunderbird would have opened up IE if IE were the default browser. So maybe this behavior has been changed. I assume you are running the 32-bit FF nightly. The 64-bit nightly hasn't been updated in over a week now, due to a compiler error (a sucky way to stop development if you ask me...).

You might want to go back and and install previous nightlies and find out which one is the last good one, and the one that started causing the issue. This will give development a handle on what possible changes between the two are causing the issue. I had to try to do the same thing with an issue I was having. Turned out, it was a damn extension that was causing my problem, not a coding fault in FF.
