WHICH are the correct repositories to use for the Nightlies (Firefox
and Thunderbird/Earlybird)?

You mention the one named "latest-comm-central" as THE one to get
the "bleeding edge" version.

Now, this differs from anything which is related to the Firefox
nightlies - which is
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/
and which is what I use for the Firefox nighlies. This
repository/directory has AURORA in its directory name.

There is nothing called "latest-comm-central" in the Firefox
repositories.

When I go to update Thunderbird - installed from the directory
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-aurora/
I mention above - I see the words "You are on the Aurora update
channel".

But you are saying that I should instead get TB from
"latest-comm-central" rather than something which has AURORA in its
repository name?

OK, I'll do this and see what happens.

Many thanks for the pointer to "latest-comm-central".

My first question to you would be what are you trying to achieve? You should never be running the Nightly build of either Firefox or Thunderbird as your daily version because it can break at any time. I would recommend reading about the Rapid Release system at https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease.

The different channels are broken down into Nightly (bleeding-edge version which changes everyday and could break at any time), Aurora (this is beta quality software. No new features are implemented and bugs found are fixed), Beta (this is release candidate software. No new features are implemented and more bugs are fixed to make it ready for release), and Release. Each version is in each branch for 6 weeks. For a daily version I would either recommend Aurora or Beta if you want to try out new features. Most themes and plugins will work with Aurora or Beta, but might not work in the Nightly version.

All of the above is the same for Firefox and Thunderbird. The only difference are the names.

Nightly (Firefox) -> Daily (Thunderbird)

Aurora (Firefox) -> Earlybird (Thunderbird)

Beta (Firefox) -> Thunderbird Beta (Thunderbird)

Release (Firefox) -> Release (Thunderbird)

As for why you don't have Troubleshooting Information in the Help menu I have no idea. I just checked my Earlybird version and I have it on mine.
