After I installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview, I immediately downloaded Nightly 64-bit (love Firefox) and when I tried to download my plug-ins (Java, Adobe Flash, etc.) I was getting the same error as you guys with the retrying download and no file in the downloads folder. After this, I tried to download them through Internet Explorer, and the problem was occurring there too. Then, I went to my e-mail that was linked to my Windows 8 profile, and I had to confirm the device (my computer) that was using my Windows Live ID e-mail. After this, and a restart, I was able to download the plug-ins and themes for my desktop. Maybe Windows 8 wouldn't let me do too much before I confirmed the device in my e-mail or it was an actual Windows 8 problem, possibly not specific to Nightly.<br>

I'm having the same issue. And you can "Retry" the download, which<br>
completes, but doesn't appear in the downloads folder. And if you try to<br>
change the download folder (or set to select folder each time) FF<br>
crashes. Glad to see it's not just me.<br>
