Hello all,

No such problem running Nightly on Arch Linux.

As Jim said, it's probably localised - something to do with your own configuration.

However,
I did have a problem similar to this with an older version of Nightly,
which was causing issues with the Pentadactyl add-on.
If the add-on was loaded manually or loaded through the 'checking compatibility' screen
(when changing browser versions), it would run, but when loaded
normally, it would cause a load spike and then crash.

Perhaps there is an add-on in one of your profiles that's causing the spike? Nightly breaks add-on compatibility pretty often.

Cheers,
Hi there,

when I try to start Nightly (no matter whether via its icon or from another program), it consumes a whole CPU core (as I've got a quad core that is 25% of my available computing power) and uses a lot of memory. After some time, the crash reporter shows, before I've ever seen any window. The only way to fix it is kill the task in the task manager and start the profile once in another release (FF 4 for me). I haven't tried to reproduce this issue deliberately. I'm trying to determine that.

Video: http://screencast.com/t/w3dkjbUCDXiR

The video shows the Windows Task Manager. After 2 seconds, I am clicking on the icon. Firefox becomes the most memory consumptive program very fast. I think I needn't explain the labels as most of you will have access a task manager, too, and it's clear from the values what they are for. You can see the crash reporter appear shortly before the video ends. At that time, FF consumes 58% (= 1.75 GB) of my total available memory (3 GB).

Does anybody else have this problem today? I did not have it yesterday, so I assume it's because of changes committed to Nightly yesterday.
I know it is hard to see with it crashing that fast but perhaps you know. What do you have set as startup Page? I use about:blank which is very fast and shouldn't use any resources.

You might also try starting Firefox in Safe Mode--see <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode?s=start+extensions+disabled&as=s>
It does not show any window at all, but I know my startpage is about:home, and I do not save tabs for the next start, so this issue should not be anything related to a displayed page. Furthermore, wouldn't I get the same result all the time? I use to make shortcuts for all the profiles for easier access:

Nightly shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Nightly\firefox.exe" -P default
Testing shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Nightly\firefox.exe" -P Entwickler
Firefox 4 shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P default

Opening the other profile works, and opening the default profile in FF 4 once fixes the problem for Nightly, too. I'm trying to reproduce the issue to check whether there is something similar to a lock file remaining the the profile folder.
