Yet little is known about how to design a hackathon for intended outcomes, what influences event design, what benefits hackathons offer, and what the larger impact of hackathons on intellectual communities and on the society as a whole are. This one-day workshop is co-located with CHI 2018, a premier forum for innovations through academic-practitioner interactions, and will bring together the diversity of researchers, experienced event organizers, and individuals interested in running their own events in the future. The aims of this workshop are to facilitate sharing hackathon-related experiences, consolidating existing research, and building and strengthening academic-industry partnerships to enable new research opportunities.
