<div dir="ltr">Hi Svetlana,<div><br></div><div>I'm a PhD student at the Queen Mary Uni. of London and I'm working on <a href="http://bionode.io" target="_blank">Bionode</a>, which is a project made of Node.js modules for bioinformatics that work server and client side (when possible). I'm also collaborating with the <a href="http://www.ebi.ac.uk/Tools/biojs/registry/" target="_blank">BioJS</a> project which started as a standard and registry of libraries for biological data visualisation on the web, but now is aiming in the next version to also work server side with Node.js (see the <a href="https://github.com/bionode/bionode/issues/9" target="_blank">discussion</a>). They're having a <a href="https://biojs.github.io/code/2014/07/04/announcing-hackathon.html" target="_blank">hackathon in Munich next week</a>. I'm also working with <a href="http://dat-data.com" target="_blank">Dat</a> which is kind of Git for data written in Node and also has some other cool modules like <a href="https://github.com/datproject/gasket" target="_blank">gasket</a> for pipelines and <a href="https://github.com/jbenet/transformer" target="_blank">transformer</a> for data conversion. </div>

<div><a href="https://github.com/maxogden/dat-editor" target="_blank">Dat has a web GUI</a> but Bionode doesn't. The Bionode and <a href="https://github.com/maxogden/dat/blob/master/docs/usage.md">Dat</a> modules can be used as <a href="https://github.com/bionode/bionode-ncbi#command-line-examples" target="_blank">command line tools</a>. There's no short term plan for a Bionode web app/GUI at the moment but if that happens or if someone builds one, I would like to have it available as a desktop app like <a href="http://atom.io">Atom</a> or <a href="https://slack.com">Slack</a> did. I went to <a href="http://2014.lxjs.org" target="_blank">LXJS</a> and had an interesting workshop about building native desktop apps in HTML and JavaScript with <a href="https://github.com/rogerwang/node-webkit" target="_blank">node-webkit</a>.</div>
<div><br></div><div>I would like to see JavaScript/Node.js more used in Science as it currently runs everywhere and is <a href="https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/03/12/mozilla-and-epic-preview-unreal-engine-4-running-in-firefox/">fast</a>. In addition, <a href="https://www.npmjs.org">NPM</a> is so amazing that I now cringe every time I need to use another package manager. Just look at the <a href="http://www.modulecounts.com">rising number of modules submitted to NPM</a> that has currently surpassed all the other languages!</div>
