<h2 class="clear">Workshops</h2>
<p>Five workshops happened this week, four of them simultaneously on four different institutions. Note that this involved <strong>7 rooms, 24 instructors and helpers, and over 200 students in just two days</strong>. Thanks to all that organized, helped, and taught.</p>
<ul>
<li>Justin Kitzes, Matt Davis, Chang She, Cindee Madison, Chris Holdgraf, Thomas Kluyver, Dav Clark, and Anna Schneider taught <a href="http://swcarpentry.github.io/2014-03-17-ucb/">a double-room workshop at the University of California at Berkeley</a>.</li>
<li>Bernhard Konrad, Jenny Bryan, Tommy Guy, Christina Koch, Lynne Williams, and Trevor King taught <a href="http://ljwilliams.github.io/2014-03-17-uw/">another double-room worskhop at the University of Washington</a> in Seatle, offering two tracks: one for Python programmers, and another for R programmers.</li>
<li>Elena Glassman, Matthew Lightman, Michael Selik, Sarah Supp, Tracy Teal, Alex Viana, and David Warde-Farley taught <a href="http://swcarpentry.github.io/2014-03-17-nyu/">yet another double-room workshop at the Center for Urban Science and Progress of the University of New York</a>, also featuring tracks for Python and R.</li>
<li>Neal Davis, Joshua Herr, and Jeff Shelton taught <a href="http://swcarpentry.github.io/2014-03-17-purdue/">a workshop at Purdue University in Indiana</a>.</li>
<li>Finally, Damien Irving started teaching <a href="http://resbaz.github.io/2014-03-18-combine/">a workshop in the University of Melbourne for researchers in Bioinformatics</a>. Instead of using our usual two-day schedule, this workshop spreads out in four mornings along two weeks.</li>

<li>Diana Clarke, PyCon 2014’s chair, <a href="http://software-carpentry.org/blog/2014/03/pycon-is-just-a-month-away.html">blogged about some things you should check if you’re going to PyCon</a>.</li>
<li>The University of Washington in Seattle is running <a href="http://software-carpentry.org/blog/2014/03/data-science-workshops-in-seattle.html">three Community Data Science workshops this spring</a>. The workshops are free and open to everybody. Register before March 26th.</li>
<li>Greg Wilson <a href="http://software-carpentry.org/blog/2014/03/empirical-software-engineering-papers.html">posted a list of some relevant papers and books with empirical studies on various tools and practices in software engineering</a>, covering topics such as the effect of peer instruction, how to write good bug reports, or how often you should release.</li>

In adittion, open spots for <strong>Toronto</strong> and <strong>Vancouver</strong> in Canada, <strong>Ithaca</strong> in New York, <strong>Paris</strong> in France, <strong>the Federal Reserve</strong> in Washington, <strong>Atlanta</strong> in Georgia, and <strong>Brisbane</strong> in Australia.
