Firefox currently checks whether an add-on will be compatible with the application version that the client will be updated to. Now that Firefox has add-ons compatible by
default and no longer supports binary components in add-ons the number
of users that have incompatible add-ons when updating is at most 0.5% per telemetry. To simplify the code that is responsible for keeping our
clients up to date with security fixes this check will be removed in bug 1262880 [1].

After the update is applied the add-ons manager will continue to notify the user on first run after the update when an add-on is incompatible, check for updates to the add-on, and check for add-on updates as it normally does.

Cheers,
Robert

[1] https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1262880
