Hello!

I fixed some bug, where p= got changed to 0. I actually didn't know what p= means so I was assuming "priority". You should really consider changing this abbreviation to something else like "score". We actively lose information by changing it to zero, so this should be changed quickly and probably also for previous bugs.

Now to the actual point. I believe tracking community contributions is always a good idea and we should do to every opportunity that shows itself. Only if we have trackable metrics we can judge if our community involvement grows.

Cheers,
Hi,

In reference to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=993712#c320, I have some questions that I'd like to bring up for discussion within the group.

As I read the aforementioned comment, it is my understanding that this is saying that bugs worked on by people not on the "proper" Firefox team will have 0 points assigned to them. However, if after the bug is fixed and QA attention is deemed necessary, then the point (p=) value may change. Please correct me if I am misreading this.

1) Why are we treating bugs worked on by people in the community as p=0? In any given iteration we may have significant contributions from the community. This will be reflected in the Firefox product, but not in the Firefox team velocity. There may be seasoned contributors who would like to participate in the desktop iterations, how can we include them in this?

2) As a followup to #1, we could gain some good information from tracking community velocity. The community plays a large role in the development of Firefox, and it would be good to be able to call out how much the community helps in a given iteration.

3) The presence of the point value in the bug whiteboard can help community members in determining the difficulty of a bug at a glance. A new contributor may look for bugs that have between 1 and 3 points, for example. Hiding this information by changing the point value from p=3 to p=0 doesn't seem helpful here.

If we are only changing the p= value to 0 to make our spreadsheets and tracking algorithms work better, I think we could just fix the spreadsheets and tracking algorithms to use a whitelist of the people that are participating in the desktop iterations.

Thanks,
Jared
