Those buttons go away when a tab is below that width out of concern for accidental tab closures when a user is just trying to switch tabs. </p><p>That said, we are hearing this feedback from a number of early users. One related issue is that we don't have a very good way right now of surfacing the "undo close tab" functionality -- currently just a menu item with a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl/Cmd-shift-t). On the one hand, we're reluctant to use precious UI chrome space just to tell people what they're currently using -- it's always seemed to me that there is no shortage of branding in the default UI (on the home page, etc).
