That add-on was mentioned in the original post!

As Chenxia mentioned, this is already possible with the existing
system, but the way the feature was designed doesn't ideally address
this particular use case. I've moved to a better
component and have put it in the Firefox team backlog, but in the near
term it's probably unlikely to float to the top of our UX team's
priority list. Clarifying the questions that need answering from a UX
perspective and proposing some concrete changes could be good ways to
move the bug forward.
