You are so right. Therefore I think Yehuda et al. (as Andreas affirmed) 
are spot-on in advocating

import foo from "foo"; // import the singleton export = thing from "foo"
import {bar} from "foo"; // import the bar export from "foo"

and we don't have a RTL problem.
