<div dir="ltr"><div>We are targeting Firefox 84 to land the following changes with a goal to make retrieval of bookmarks simpler (user research highlighted that users struggled to retrieve bookmarks they created). A new pref browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 controls this behavior:</div><div>- Change the default location of bookmarks to the Bookmarks Toolbar (and make the default folder follow the last folder in which users bookmarked)</div><div>

It makes Firefox remember the most recently selected bookmark destination, so users would only need to pick a different destination folder once, and it would continue to be used from then on.</div><div><br></div><div>I think that patch adds a preference to track the most-recently-selected folder. From some quick testing, it looks like `browser.bookmarks.defaultLocation` gets set to a value of "menu________" or "toolbar_____" for the bookmarks menu or bookmarks toolbar, respectively. I have had multiple users complain that "Firefox is too hard" and
what they mean is that when they bookmark a page it goes in "other
bookmarks" (which makes zero sense) rather than the main bookmarks
list like every other browser does. They don't know to look in
"other boookmarks" so it looks to them look bookmarking is broken.<br>
<br>
To fix this, it's an extra mouse click either to find a bookmark or
to place a bookmark in the main folder, and this adds unneeded
friction to the UI. Apparently this isn't going to be something
that will be fixed, so is there a way to set this in the
configuration?<br>
