I think the main issue is that the unsubscribe “footer” that includes the mailing list info & unsubscribe instructions is probably not visible/shown to most users.  For example, Outlook will typically mark it as an extra file attachment called ATT00001.txt.  It has to do with MIME/HTML vs. text-only formatting… where “inserting” unsubscribe instructions into users’ HTML-formatted emails is not a straightforward task.  There have been solutions out there that may help, but it would be up to the mailing list sysadmins (i.e. Mozilla in this case) to implement it on the server side.  I think it would be a beneficial change since it should reduce the unsubscribe request noise.  Another suggestion (at least for mailing list developers—not Mozilla in this case) would be to implement something like an “auto-block/require-approval” for short emails that contain key phrases like “unsubscribe” or “off this list” for those times when the unsubscribe instructions are staring them in the face anyways.  ;)

Maybe someone on this list at Mozilla can forward this to the sysadmins responsible for the listserv?  Hopefully the last link provides solution that could be implemented?
