Mike, i came back to this:

Now the (web)extension support preferences management:

this page speak about also a 'system storage' for Chrome/FF, but in
Linux only.

There's also a 'system' storage for Windows? I've tried to look in
mozilla docs, but probably i lack the right keyword...
