[Mozilla Enterprise] What Missing Policies are preventing you from migrating?

Hi Mike,

I use the CCK to configure the following settings below.  This is from my old homegrown GPO template.  I customized the CCK; it reads the GPO registry keys and applies them during Firefox startup.  I haven’t had time to review the latest Firefox GPO template, so I’m sure a lot of these CCK setings are already covered in policies.  I also realize that some of these below no longer apply on newer Firefox versions, but we still support computers with old images and old Firefox versions too that still need some of these settings applied.

Do you ever envision the ability to set custom browser preferences by an arbitrary string… such as my “preferences” settings below?

Also, in our lab/classroom environments all users are pretty much “new” users with “new” Windows/OS profiles most of the time.  In this environment, the “first run” experience needs to be the same as “subsequent” launches of Firefox.  This has proven to be a challenge sometimes to get working correctly with Google’s Chrome.  I know this request is a little out of this scope regarding policy feedback, but thought I would mention it since I don’t know if “first run” logic is (or could) make its way into the policy engine.

With Firefox 64 (and Firefox ESR 60.4), we've added some important policies that have prevented folks from using the new policy support:

1. Selecting a default locale.
2. Installing certificates
3. Adding security devices
4. Setting the start page

We've also added support for Mac configuration profiles.

So here's my question:
Besides setting arbitrary preferences, is there some specific thing that you could do with Autoconfig or CCK2 that is preventing you from using policy?

We're trying to prioritize future policy work, and just having a list of preferences folks want to set isn't really enough. I want to know what specific things you want to do via policy that you can't do today. And if it is a preference, I'd be really interested in knowing the "why" of setting that preference, not just "we need to set that preference."
