<html><body><div style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000"><div>Hi All,<br></div><div><br></div><div>Short time lurker, first time poster.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The Firefox for Android and Firefox for Metro teams have been doing some small discussions around some coding practices, coding design and development processes. The main intent is to make sure people are exposed to new (and old) ideas, use those ideas when writing and reviewing code, and become stronger (opinionated) developers in the process.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Margaret suggested throwing these small topics out to the Reading group. It seems like a good idea, even if we only ever discuss the posts in the mailing list.<br></div><div><br></div><div>So look for some links to short articles or posts with some code snippets, and we can start discussing the pros and cons here.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Thanks,<br></div><div>Finkle<br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><hr id="zwchr"><blockquote style="border-left:2px solid #1010FF;margin-left:5px;padding-left:5px;color:#000;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;text-decoration:none;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:12pt;"><div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Hi reading friends,<br><div><br></div></div>Thanks to everyone who participated in our discussion about the AOSA book! The consensus was that the book was interesting, but a lot to digest, so focusing on a few chapter at a time would be the way to go if you plan on reading it (you can see more notes posted from the wiki page).<br>
<br>I've received feedback from people that they would like to see us experiment with reading papers/articles instead of books, with more frequent discussions, so I think we should try doing that for our next discussion. <br>
<br></div>I see some papers/articles were already added to the "Ideas for Future Reading Section" of our wiki page:<br><a href="https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Reading_Group#Ideas_for_Future_Reading" target="_blank">https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Reading_Group#Ideas_for_Future_Reading</a><br>
<br></div>Does anyone have any opinion about what we should start with? Ideally, it would be nice to pick a set of articles that revolve around a certain theme, but we could also pick a random set. We could also pick one article to focus on, but I don't know if that's enough to merit a whole discussion (maybe just a 30 minute one?).<br>
<br></div>Along the lines of reading articles, we could also use this reading list to send out interesting things as we stumble across them on the internet. We could use those for discussion material, or we could even make informal commentary about them to the list or in our #reading IRC channel.<br>
<br></div>I'm just throwing ideas out here. I created this group with the idea of creating a space for us to spend time thinking about technical things that we don't run into in our day-to-day work, so anything we can do to achieve that is a win.<br>
<br></div>Please chime in with your wonderful opinions! :)<br><div><br></div></div>Margaret<br></div>
