Just of couple UX ideas from a non UX guy.

1) After clicking the `Continue` button, display a spinner similar to the sign-in page. Currently page transitions pretty quickly and seems a bit jarring.

2) If using a known email, maybe display a login page that is similar to reauthorizing a session and not standard login page. This page seems more friendly to me than the standard login page.

Overall, seems to well and didn't mind the extra click.

- Vijay

On Fri, Oct 21, 2016 at 9:04 AM, Shane Tomlinson <stomlinson@mozilla.com> wrote:

I'm attaching a video of my Friday experiment to enter the email
on its own screen then transition to signin or signup depending
on the email status. This was a quick 30 minute hack, putting the
video together took longer than the code. I would expect the

final product to have a lot of cleanup.

The idea is pretty simple, stolen straight from Persona:

1) Have the user enter only their email on the first screen.

2) Check the entered email address

2a) If registered, go to /signin

2b) If not registered, go to /signup

I have a feeling this could help us out with several long standing

UX issues and simplify some flows. For example, with this there would

be no need for the often hated signin-from-signup [1]. We'd be able
to simplify the AMO signup/signin flow discussed in [2]. The firstrun
flow on a new Firefox profile/install would be a bit smoother, instead of

sending users who already have an account to /signup, users would

enter their email address and then see the correct screen. Finally, this

might help Ryan Feeley simplify some of the new onboarding flows
he is working on.

It's true this flow adds one more click to users who are signing up,
it's the same number of clicks for users who find themselves on the
signup screen and click "Already have an account?
