We’re really excited about the upcoming changes as they’re a big step forward in delivering on the Flow user experience, giving FxOS users seamless access to their content.

The highlights of the planned changes are included in a presentation posted here:

https://mozilla.box.com/flow-UX-update

To summarize, the changes include:

System Browser and Universal Search

Browser and search are available from anywhere on the device simply by tapping on the status bar search field

Search results include web search, favourites, browsing history (new), applications, e.me and Marketplace results

Bookmarks now appear on the home screen instead of in the browser

Although the browser is accessible from anywhere, there will be a browser link on the home screen that launches a new start page with top sites and history

Task Switcher

With the introduction of the System Browser, the Task Switcher is also used to manage browser windows

The Task Switcher is visually refreshed and, instead of a carousel, now has a continuously horizontal scrolling UI

Task Switcher is accessed via a long tap of the home button

While on the home screen, the Task Switcher can also be accessed via a single tap of the home button. This improves accessibility to windows management features. Flywheel scrolling allows the user to access to the top of the home screen within a few quick flicks.

Utility Tray

The Utility Tray continues to be accessed from the top of the display as per 2.0

The visual design is updated and a new transition to allows users to peek at the most recent notifications

Status Bar

Status bar colour is customized to match app headers

Status bar indicator icons are prioritized to make better use of available space

Edge Gesture / Sheets Transitions

When using edge gestures to switch between apps, the Status Bar now moves with the sheet to accommodate multiple Status Bar states and orientations.

Soft Home Button Support

The soft home button has been enhanced to provide an alternative to a physical home button.

The home button bar supports landscape orientations and can be hidden during full screen video playback.

For more details, a list of SFE UI and visual specs has been posted to this etherpad - https://etherpad.mozilla.org/SFE-Spec-Locations. Additional specs are available in the box.com 2.1 UI spec folders. While the specs are in a stable state and have been reviewed by engineering for scope, based on implementations during the 2.1 sprints, there may be minor changes made along the way.

Feedback

The UX team welcomes your feedback on the proposed changes.
