
<html><body><div style="font-family: times new roman, new york, times, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000"><div>+Ravi (who has been assembling a FxOS metrics plan)<br></div><div><br></div><hr id="zwchr"><div style="color:#000;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;text-decoration:none;font-family:Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:12pt;"><b>From: </b>"Katie Parlante" <kparlante@mozilla.com><br><b>To: </b>dev-fxacct@mozilla.org<br><b>Sent: </b>Friday, 7 February, 2014 12:26:39 AM<br><b>Subject: </b>Measuring FxA Active Daily Users<br><div><br></div>Hi all,<br><div><br></div>One of the more important metrics for Firefox Accounts is going to be something approximating "Active Daily Users"; I wanted to get some feedback about how to best measure that.<br><div><br></div>The metric doesn't have to be a perfect measure, but it needs to give us a reasonable understanding of how many people are actively using FxA. For example, Firefox measures "Active Daily Installations" : https://wiki.mozilla.org/ADI. When browserid/persona went live we just had # cert verifications & # calls to /sign_in.<br><div><br></div>I'll toss out a few ideas to get the conversation started:<br><div><br></div>1. Number of FxAccounts ever created<br>This measure over counts users who set up an account but don't ever use it for anything -- technically doesn't measure "active" users.<br><div><br></div>2. Number of FxAccounts that touch the fxa-auth-server database per day<br>If I understand correctly, this would be an under count, as users may be "using" their account (syncing, whatnot) but their device doesn't have to reattach every day, so fx-auth-server doesn't "see" the user.<br><div><br></div>3. Number of unique IPs that hit fxa-auth-server or fxa-content-server endpoints per day<br>Again, has a similar problem to #2?<br><div><br></div>4. Telemetry from devices (FxOS, Android, Desktop, js-client-library)<br>I don't think we're going to get telemetry from FxOS any time soon, for example, so it would be nice if we could get a reasonable measure without it.<br><div><br></div>5. Certificates verified <br>This will be an over count: certificates expire, users may use more than one service, etc. Factoring in the expiration times, though, its probably a good approximation of active adoption.<br><div><br></div>Thoughts?<br><div><br></div>FWIW, a list of other high priority metrics (framed as stories) and info can be found here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Identity/Metrics<br><div><br></div>Cheers,<br>Katie<br> <br>_______________________________________________<br>Dev-fxacct mailing list<br>Dev-fxacct@mozilla.org<br>https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-fxacct<br></div><div><br></div></div></body></html>
