[dev-addons] How to adjust toolbar on install of add-on (Thunderbird)

Greetings -

We are developing a custom add-on for Thunderbird.   Our application adds a button to the toolbar when viewing a message.    Everything appears to be working except that after installing the Add-On, you have to manually customize the toolbar to get the additional options to show up.

Is there anyway for the Add-On installation process to perform the toolbar customization so that the toolbar icons/options show up afterward without further user action being required?   Or another way to accomplish the desired affect?

We want the Add-On to be easy enough install and get working such that users don't do have to do the manual toolbar customization.
